The Volvo PV 4444
The Swedish car-maker VOLVO had a reputation of producing solid and reliable cars from it's foundation in 1927. But this reputation became a legend in 1944 when the famous PV444 saw the light of day.

In the dawn of World War II planners of the Swedish car manufacturer figured that the future of VOLVO would be secured if they could introduce a reliable and foremost economical and affordable car. The answer was given with the PV 444 which was later nick named "hatchback" or "buckelvolvo" due to it's characteristic outline.

The Artigas statue has a secret
The Artigas statue on top of the mausoleum
One can not visit Montevideo without coming across themain square sooner or later - The Plaza Independecia. It is surrounded by the Sheraton Hotel, the Palacio Estevez which used to hold the presidential seat and has a great statue of the national hero Jose Artigas in it's center. But this square bears also a secret  beneath it's surface which one would not notice right away. The Mausoluem of Jose Artigas.

Jose Artigas was the most important hero in Uruguayan history, he was born in Montevideo on June 19th, 1764 and died in Paraguay in September 23rd 1850.

In the heart of Montevideo, before reaching the gates to the old city, you can find in the middle of Plaza Independencia, a wonderful monument of Jose Artigas, beneath which you will discover a beautiful place of peace where the remains of Artigas are.

Uruguay has a surface area of approximately 68'000 square miles (176.212 km2) and is located in the southern region, in the warmest sub-zone. It is bordered on the north and northeast by Brazil; on the west and south by Argentina, across the Uruguay River (Rio Uruguay) and the Rio de la Plata - the Silver River - and on the east by the Atlantic Ocean.
