Swiss Restaurant Rösti in Motevideo Switzerland may be a few thousand miles away, but you will forget about the distance the moment you step into the door of the Restaurant Rösti in Montevideo (Pocitos). This place is not only truly Swiss it is also an absolute Insider Tip far off the usual tourist routes.
When we tested the Rösti, we started out the classical Swiss way with a Cheese Fondue which was simply awesome. For the main course we had Kassler - a very typical German and Swiss type of salted meat with Röstis - a sort of pancake made out of sliced and roasted potatoes.
It was absolute delicious and the only difference to the Kassler you'll get in Europe was it's size: about twice as big.
We accompanied the meal with Uruguayan red wine - a mixture of 50% Tannat and 50% Merlot. An combination that might seem odd on the beginning but can be absolutely recommended.
Say Grützi to the Choclate Fondue!
We finished off with a great dessert - Chocolate Fondue
and Coffee. While the Chocolate Fondue (a bowl of hot dark chocolate
and a plate of fruits, which you dip into the hot chocolate) is an
absolute recommendation the coffee was disappointing as it is often the
case in Uruguay.
We were a group of six and spend about 500 pesos (25 USD) per
person, what places the Rösti slightly above the average price level.
All though it is absolutely worth the money.
Another plus that should be mentioned is the children's playground
on the first floor. Equipped with a wooden hut, toys and a large color
TV showing Disney films it is yet another example how much the people
of Uruguay pay attention to children.
